They train to be ready for any situation- even if that situation is uncommon in our area Protestors may not be abundant in andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t north-dakotaandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt North Dakotaandamp lt aandamp gt but the andamp lt a href andamp quot http www kxnet com t minot-policeandamp quot class andamp quot kxInlineLinkandamp quot andamp gt Minot Policeandamp lt aandamp gt Department and other emergency personnel feel it s important to handle them appropriately That s the purpose of an exercise conducted by the Center for Domestic Preparedness Emergency personnel tackle various problems encountered while dealing with protestors including the removal of homemade devices some protestors use to prevent arrest Crews use tools to safely remove the devices and take the individual into custody Minot Police Captain Bill Brown says the exercise is a useful addition to their training but it s also an eye-opening experience for many officers Capt Bill Brown Minot Police Dept andamp quot When we re dealing with protestors they want to basically gum up the works They want to make it as difficult for us as possible to do our jobs Well we re learning the tricks of the trade that a lot of protestors are using today and we re also learning how to defeat those devices So I think it s a win-win not only for the citizens but for the first responders as well andamp quot Several dozen emergency personnel from around the state took part in the training which wrapped up last week
