ND AMVETS Convention In Minot

Members of a statewide veterans advocacy group are pleased with the results of the 2007 North Dakota legislative session AMVETS of North Dakota is talking about just that at their annual convention in Minot this weekend Members say the legislature delivered on several important pieces of legislation including a new Veterans Home in Lisbon a property tax exemption for veterans at least 50-percent disabled and a strengthening of other veterans preferences The head of the state Department of Veterans Affairs says legislators were listening closely when issues of importance to North Dakota veterans were raised Bob Hanson Dept of Veterans Affairs The legislature this year was the best I ve ever seen Virtually every single bill that was proposed veterans bills that were proposed passed We have some very good legislation and had very few negative votes Gene Kouba Disabled American Veterans The legislature of the nine sessions I ve done was wonderful absolutely wonderful An example would be the cemetery bill for protestors that protest veterans funerals I think it passed in nine days from start to finish that s never happened before that I ve ever seen This is the 26th annual convention for the AMVETS of North Dakota
